Rwanda, through the National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC) housed at the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM) and with support of TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) has been at the forefront in implementing trade facilitation initiatives and reforms meant at facilitating cross border trade (export, import and transit). These include the implementation of WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) that the country ratified, and which came into effect on 22nd February 2017. When implementing reforms, trade facilitation explores the possibilities that modernization can bring to speedy processing of trade and customs declarations. Online publication of trade information, customs automation, e-payment, electronic single windows, acceptance of digital copies are examples of trade facilitation measures that are possible thanks to the new technologies.
